Drawing inspiration from quotes appearing in the theater’s repertoire of plays (such as Die Möwe, Hamlet or Vernon Subutex), Illenberger designed Schaubühne’s 2023/24 campaign in her characteristic tongue-in-cheek approach. Seemingly mundane objects are taken out of their original context to play with the gravity and significance of selected phrases, translated in visual combinations that make the viewer look twice. The theater transformed into a treasure trove of found materials and backdrops that informed the finished pieces. The objects were recreated in table-sized versions in order to be staged and photographed in the artist’s studio. Starting August 28th 2023, all 16 campaign motifs are displayed as posters throughout Berlin.
